It's been a long, strange trip for David Holmes, who abandoned a career as a Belfast hairdresser to make striking techno floorfillers before creating music for imaginary films, and then found himself as Steven Soderbergh's favourite hired hand on soundtracks for real movies. The Dogs Are Paradingis a recap of the past 15 years, with the emphasis on albums in between Holmes's sojourns on the dancefloor and the big screen. What's noteworthy is how tracks from Let's Get Killed(1997) and Bow Down to the Exit Sign(2000) exude a sense of timelessness, while The Ballad of Sarah and Jackand I Heard Wondersfrom 2008's The Holy Picturescatch Holmes ready to duck and dive in another direction.
