This is the Second Album of a Band Called Adebisi ShankRichter Collective ****
Ireland’s new indie optimism needs a big album to mark a moment in time and that album is Adebisi Shank’s second. Underground rock’s downfall – in this country, at least – has been its compulsion to pander to its influences and its audience. Adebisi move on, respectfully. They move on from the kinetic live shows, the math-rock number crunching, the Redneck Manifesto hero-worship, the machismo of the moshpit, the evil glare of the chin-stroker. Forty seconds into the tip-tap intro of International Dreambeat and it explodes with ecstasy, breathless crescendos pile-up on top of clangorous synthesizers. From here the Wexford-Dublin trio bring us on a journey of robot rock riffage, classic rock licks, hypnotic jazz patterns, crash-bang-wallop hardcore and even 1980s synthesizer pop.
