THAT flips your wig rhythm or blues? If the former, then you've got till Friday 28th to get your toupee down to Cork for the latest Heineken Weekender, a three day dancefest featuring leading lights of the hip hop, dub and acid jazz genres. Headlining next week's event are Bristol pioneers Massive Attack, who emerged from the Wild Bunch party collective in the early Nineties, and went on to have massive success with the albums, Blue Lines and Protection. Also on the bill are James Taylor Quartet, Dreadzone, Mad Professor, Andy Smith and Alex Reece, plus a special appearance by former Sugarhill Gang spinner Mark Stewart and The Maffia. The bulk of the Weekender's events happen in The Opera House and The Fortim, with the usual free city wide pub trail for good measure. Meanwhile, American blues man Buddy Guy, right, (described by Eric Clapton as the "best guitar player alive") has been announced as the headliner for the 5th Guinness Temple Bar Blues Festival, from Friday 19th to Sunday 21st of July.

And elsewhere, the comprehensive music programme for the Galway Arts Festival has just been announced. The Big Day Out open air concert on Sunday July 28th will feature Radiohead. Nenah Cherry and The Divine Comedy. Galwegian native sons the Saw Doctors will give a concert on Sunday 21st, and native daughter Mary Coughlan on Friday 26th.

Bluegrass and acoustic country music comes from Alison Krauss & Union Station and blues from John Mayall.
