The Eclipse,Irish writer-director Conor McPherson's third feature, will have its world premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York next month.

McPherson, who wrote and directed Saltwater(2000) and The Actors(2003), collaborated on the screenplay of The Eclipse with fellow playwright Billy Roche, on whose short story it is based. Shot in Cobh, Co Cork last autumn, it's described as "a supernatural love story". Ciarán Hinds plays a woodwork teacher mourning the death of his wife and experiencing ghostly visitations. Helping out at the annual literary festival in his hometown, he finds himself drawn to a visiting author (Danish actress Iben Hjejle) whose books deal with the supernatural. And he finds himself competing with a high-profile writer (Aidan Quinn) for her attention. Co-founded by Robert De Niro, the Tribeca festival opens on April 22nd with Woody Allen's Whatever Works, starring Larry David, Evan Rachel Wood and Patricia Clarkson.
