Little interest shown in biography of Monica

There was little Irish consumer interest in Andrew Morton's biography of Monica Lewinsky in bookshops yesterday.

There was little Irish consumer interest in Andrew Morton's biography of Monica Lewinsky in bookshops yesterday.

"Nobody asked about it before it arrived, and we have only sold one since we got it in," a spokeswoman for the Dublin Bookshop in Grafton Street said. They had ordered 10, which was "a tiny amount" for a new book, she said.

By yesterday afternoon neither Water stone's in Dawson Street, Dublin, nor Fred Hanna's, Nassau Street, Dublin, had received their orders of Monica's Story hardbacks, which sell at £19.35.

A spokeswoman for Fred Hanna's said that while there had been one or two inquiries, there was very little interest. They had ordered 50 copies which should be in by Monday.

While Easons on O'Connell Street, Dublin, reported a slow trade during the morning, sales had picked up by early afternoon. A spokesman said he believed the sales were largely due to the shop being featured on Marian Finucane's radio show that morning. About 30 of the 100 copies ordered by the store had gone and he expected the rest to be sold by the end of the day.

Meanwhile, at Easons in Patrick Street, Cork, only three copies of the 15 ordered had been sold. A spokeswoman said they ordered such a small number because they did not expect sales would go well. "We have had hardly any inquiries and only sold three copies. For a book that has been hyped this much that isn't very good," she said.
