Called Evening Montreux, this canvas by Sir John Lavery was sold by Phillips of London last June for £67,500 sterling (including premiums). Now the painting has been put into a Dublin auction next Monday with an estimate of more than double that figure. Adams of Blackrock expect this work - the final lot of an Irish and continental art sale - to make £130,000 - £150,000, which would represent a substantial profit for the current owners. If the picture does realise such a sum, it will bode well for other Lavery works coming on the market during the Christie's, for example, plans to include Played!!, a previously unknown work by this artist, in its May sale of Irish art.
Beginning at 6.30 p.m., the Adams sale also features works by Mildred Anne Butler, James Humbert Craig and Percy French.
