The festival season may be over, but jazz fans will be happy to hear that there are a couple of events that may interest them over the coming days and weeks. The Galway Jazz Festival kicked off yesterday with a gig by the Trygve Seim Orchestra, while a host of other jazz acts will play in the city this weekend, including UK group Polar Bear, who were nominated for the Mercury Music Prize in 2005. Also scheduled to perform are Rebecca Martin and Martin Grenadier, Métier, Francesco Turrisi Trio and Buckley, Stowell Feely.
"This fifth edition [of the festival] might still be a boutique, but it’s more than doubled in size since last year,” said festival director Gerry Godley. “Jazz admirers will be able to explore the musical spectrum, from established international performers to the brightest local talent.”
There’s a Dublin-based jazz gathering planned for December 4th and 5th, too. The Bottlenote Festival will take place at Twisted Pepper, and will feature improv and experimental jazz from Irish and international acts including Justin Carroll, Simon Jermyn and Robin Fincker.
