A RARE 17th century map of Ireland by Boazio Baptista, printed in Antwerp in 1612, is among a small collection of 13 maps of Ireland to be offered for sale at Bonhams in London next Tuesday,

All but two of the maps show the entire island as seen by French, Dutch, Flemish Italian and English map-makers, between the beginning of the 17th and the end of the 18th centuries. The maps could be considered good value compared with works of art dating from the same period; most are estimated to fetch between £150 and £300.

The Boazio Baptista map, which is from the Vrients edition of Ortelius's Theatrum orbis terrarum, is one of the most expensive lots in the auction, with an estimate of £1,500-£2,000.
