Glass is the poor relation in the antiques and fine art world but the Glass Society of Ireland is determined to improve its profile. Members include some of the foremost glass collectors in Ireland, both of antique and contemporary glass. While they need no encouragement - collecting glass and learning more about it seems to be a hobby that rapidly becomes an obsession - the society would like to spread the word and attract new disciples.

To this end it will hold a seminar at the National College of Art and Design on Thomas Street, Dublin 8, next Saturday, November 4th. Part of its annual conference, the day long event will include lectures on the history of glass and a talk by master glass artist and painter Patrick Reytiens.
