A butcher's shop is not the usual venue for a fashion show, but Anderson Smith Victuallers of Glasnevin, Dublin recently served designer Brenda Aherne very well indeed. Aherne is behind one of the country's newest labels, Electronic Sheep, which started with a range of accessories less than two years ago. Since then, it has expanded into T-shirts and knitwear and - making a debut at the aforementioned show - a line for babies up to three years old.
The Electronic Sheep look is essentially urban and streetwise in spirit, based around hooded sweaters decorated with bands or blocks of colour, stretch-to-fit tops and typography-carrying T-shirts. Prices reflect the spending power of potential customers: £60 - £85 for knitwear; £25 for T-shirts; and £12 - £25 for accessories including gloves, mittens, hats and scarves. The range is carried by a wide variety of outlets both at home and abroad, with retailers in Dublin including Tribe, Sabotage and the Kilkenny Shop.
