I have just finished reading The Big Picture by Douglas Kennedy (Abacus, £9.99 in UK). I found it a fascinating read, being on one level "a thumping good story" and on the other the depressing story of married Ben Bradford, a junior partner in a legal firm in New York, on the verge of promotion. It is not what he wants. He has always wanted to be a photographer. When he realises his marriage is not working, he gets his wish, but with interesting consequences. I felt for all the characters in this tragic novel, without siding with anyone in particular.
