A GEORGE III mahogany bureau bookcase, its mounted cornice raised on blind fretwork frieze, sold for £3,100 at the auction conducted by Town & Country on its Dublin premises last Sunday afternoon. An Irish William IV serving table sold for £1,000 less than this figure, while a Victorian mahogany bookcase with two glass panelled doors fetched £840.
Other good prices at the same auction: £800 for a George IV mahogany, telescopic dining table; £700 for a set of six Victorian mahogany balloon back dining chairs; and £660 for an early 19th century mahogany, three pillar dining room table.
