LISTOWEL Writers Week opened last night with an address by that supreme Kerry-phile, Charles J. Haughey. Today's readers include Michael Hartnett, Mary Morrissy, Colm Toibin and Moya Cannon. Tomorrow the Heineken Euro Afternoon will he an afternoon of readings music and theatre from the Netherlands, and Michael O'Loughlin, an Irish poet living in Amsterdam, will participate.
On Saturday morning the author of Imagining Ireland, Declan Kiberd, gives a reading on "National culture in an era of post nationalism". On Saturday afternoon, the poet John Montague reads, and later on Joe O'Connor gives a reading. That night, the poet Micheal O Siadhail reads, and a little later Maire Geoghegan Quinn reads from her first novel, The Green Diamond.
