The Galagaseries is a piece of gaming heritage; its first version is now 30 years old. Having made its way from arcades to bar tables, Galagahas appeared on PCs and consoles, on and off, ever since. The psychedelic influence of this simple 2D shooter is seen on recent games, especially Child of Eden, with its Tron- style neon 8-bit graphics. You play a spaceship that must repel hordes of enemies. If you're too young to remember any Galagagames, think of them as more elegant and fluid variations on Space Invaders. The gameplay, as usual, is engaging, simple and addictive; the graphics – a swirl of primary colours against a black space background – are pretty; and the music (1990s- style trance, which is par for the course) isn't bad. A nice package overall so, but what younger gamers will make of it is anyone's guess.
