Striking collection of clocks at Castle

A notable collection of 18th and 19th century longcase grandfather clocks will feature at the Dublin Castle Antiques and Collectors fair tomorrow. Included in this collection is an eight-day movement example, made by Edward Townley of Dundalk, who was in business from 1790-1824. The hand-painted dial features the Queen Char- lotte, flagship of Admiral Howe at the end of the 18th century. The fair will also feature an early French tin plate garage, powered by a rare, Irish manufactured battery, and assorted collectors' toys such as a collection of early Meccano sets, both and boxed. In addition, stands will show a wide selection of china, prints, Edwardian and Victorian gold and silver jewellery, linen, lace, coins and medals. Held in the Old Coach House, the fair opens to the public at 10.30 a.m.

Wexford Festival fair until Monday

Continuing until next Monday, the Wexford Festival antique fair is being held as usual in the Talbot Hotel. The 21st such event, it features dealers from throughout Ireland, including O'Regan's of Cork, Curran's and Walsh of Dublin, as well as locals such as Drinagh and Wall. The fair remains open in the hotel each evening until 8.30 p.m.

Porcelain a feature of Armagh event

The latest monthly antiques and collectors fair at Armagh's Palace Stables Heritage Centre takes place tomorrow from noon. Traders will bring a wide assortment of porcelain, with examples of Sylvac, Beswick, Royal Dux, Wade and Carlton ware all for sale. There will also be costume and precious jewellery, tea and coffee sets, glass oil lamps, clocks, books and prints.

One-day book fair on Monday

This month's National Book Fair is scheduled for next Monday at the Masonic Hall on Molesworth Street in Dublin, and it will be a one-day event. Once more, a large number of exhibitors is expected, offering second-hand, rare and antiquarian titles. In addition, prints, maps, postcards and other similar ephemera will also be on offer. The fair starts at 10 a.m.

Ulster antiques fair next week

The 23rd Ulster antiques and fine art fair is to be held in the Culloden Hotel, Holywood, Co Down, from next Tuesday to Thursday. Regular exhibitors at the event include Oakland Antiques of Donegall Pass in Belfast, Jacquart Antiques of Holywood, Bob Christie, Rock Angus and Forge Antiques and Dublin's Upper Court Manor Antiques. The fair runs from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. daily.
