With the sixth Electric Picnic festival kicking off today in Stradbally, organisers have announced some last-minute treats for those who are planning on attending the three-day event. Florence Welch of Florence & the Machine will be participating in a reading on the Arts Council Literary Stage on Sunday at 4pm. Welch will read a John Berryman poem, while over the weekend, Julie Feeney, Mundy and Tommy Tiernan will also be reading from the works of poets and authors who have inspired them.
Keeping with the literary theme, Trainspottingauthor Irvine Welsh will be the special guest on Saturdays edition of live TV show Transmission Pantiin the Thisispopbaby tent. Richie Egan of Jape and Thomas Cosby, owner of Stradbally Hall, will guest on Sunday's edition.
Also announced is the line-up for the dance- oriented Bacardi B-Live arena. The stage will see sets by Horsemeat Disco, Toddla T, Calvin James, Krafty Kuts, Filthy Dukes, Unabombers and more.
It has been confirmed over the past few days that Dan Deacon will definitely not be playing the festival; his slot will be filled by Dublin-based instrumental band The Jimmy Cake.
And of course, the Daily Ticket returns for the third year running on Saturday and Sunday of the festival, cramming as many reviews, previews, updates and recommendations as possible into its pages.
