The Cork French Film Festival, sponsored by Bord Gáis Energy, kicks off on Sunday night. As ever, the programme is impressive. The opening film will be Agnès Varda's Nouvelle Vague classic
Cléofrom 5 to 7 (apparently an Irish premiere of the 1962 film). The event will feature a retrospective of Varda's work, and the great woman will be on hand to discuss her films.
Screenings and events take place in a number of locations. Among the delights are a “cine-concert” at Ballymaloe House marking the 150th anniversary of the birth of Georges Méliès, magician of silent cinema, and a series of early French films scored by Donal Dineen. How do they manage it? corkfrenchfilmfestival.com
