Michael Dwyer, this newspaper’s late film correspondent, was posthumously honoured at the Royal Arts Alliance Media awards in London last month. Brian Jennings, Michael’s partner, accepted the honour on our old friend’s behalf at the Marriott Hotel in Grosvenor Square. Director Jim Sheridan was also on hand to celebrate Michael’s many achievements.
The organisers commented: "The award is presented in recognition of his commitment to film in Ireland, as the founder of the Dublin Film Festival, as an advocate of nationwide access to world cinema, and for his longtime support and recognition of Irish cinema exhibition and distribution through his work as film critic for The Irish Times."
Jennings, the silvery voice of RTÉ Radio News, is expected to hand out The Michael Dwyer Discovery Award at the Dublin Film Critics Circle shindig in the Irish Film Institute tomorrow at 5.00pm. The awards bash acknowledges outstanding achievement at the Jameson Dublin International Film Festival (jdiff.com).
