The shortlist for the European Film Awards, which take place in Tallinn on December 4th, makes for interesting reading. The runaway leader among the nominees is, perhaps surprisingly, Roman Polanski's The Ghost, which picked up an impressive seven nominations.

However, following certain recent events in Switzerland, it seems unlikely that Polanski, still wanted for that rape charge,
will make his way to the Estonian capital. Other pictures picking up best film nods include Israel's Lebanon, Turkey's
Bal, France's Of Gods and Men, Germany's Soul Kitchenand Spain's The Secret in Their Eyes.
