Cast your eyes towards Sligo for The North West Film and Music Fest at The Model arts centre.
The programmers have done an excellent job of gathering together hot new features and devising special events. Among the films playing at the festival, which runs from November 14th until November 25th, are the splendid Berberian Sound Studio, the gorgeous Samsara and the bouncy music doc Shut up and Play the Hits. The event, as its title suggests, takes a special interest in music on film. Paul Duane, the director of Very Extremely Dangerous, will be on hand to discuss that gripping study of rocker-turned-gangster Jerry McGill. The jamboree closes with Good Vibrations, the acclaimed celebration of Northern punk, followed by a performance by the current incarnation of the incomparable Undertones. A terrific line-up.
