This weekend, the Samhlaíocht Kerry Film Festival celebrates 10 years of bringing top-quality cinema action to the good people of the Kingdom. As well as offering an excellent series of shorts, the event, which commences tomorrow and runs until Saturday, November 7th, will screen such fine films as The Secret of Kells, Pan's Labyrinth, The Apartment, The Yellow Bittern: The Life and Times of Tom Clancyand The Class.

The organisers have rarely had much trouble luring celebrity judges to the cosy streets of Tralee, and this year is no exception. The panel assessing the best shorts comprises critic James Christopher, actors Jeremy Irons and Michael Fassbender, and top animator Simon Brown.

“This will be the 10th year of the Kerry Film Festival and both the quantity and quality of the films has risen year on year,” says Jason O’Mahony, director of the event. “And we felt it was important to have an adjudication panel of the very highest standing to adjudicate the short films. We’re hugely grateful to all the adjudicators for giving so selflessly of their time and for agreeing to adjudicate at this year’s Kerry Film Festival.”

The panel’s decisions will be announced on the closing evening at a ceremony that will also see the Maureen O’Hara Award being handed to director and writer Rebecca Miller.
