There was some good news for Jack Reynor when the London Film Critics Circle announced the nominations for its 2012 awards earlier in the week. There was also a small stirring of controversy. The star of What Richard Did – born and raised in Dublin – was shortlisted in the race for “young British performer of the year”. The LFCC’s website does contain the following note: “Irish films, film-makers and performers are eligible in British categories”. Nonetheless, both there and in the press release, the award’s title makes mention of just one nationality. It’s not a big thing. It’s nice that the LFCC honours our actors and film-makers. But still . . .
Elsewhere in the list, Amour and The Master topped the poll with seven nominations each.
