Always a popular source of inspiration for Irish artists, this Connemara landscape scene by Letitia Hamilton (1878-1964) is included in the spring exhibition which opens at Jorgensen Fine Art in Dublin next week. Letitia and her older sister, Eva, who also painted, were the daughters of Charles Hamilton of Hamwood, Co Meath and examples of their work may still be seen in the house.
Letitia studied for a while with Sir William Orpen, as well as Frank Brangwyn, and she exhibited at the Royal Hibernian Academy for the first time in 1909. Consistently popular with buyers, she was particularly well known for her rural landscapes, as well as scenes of country markets and hunt meetings.
At Jorgensen Fine Art, she keeps company with many other well-known Irish artists, such as Lavery, Henry, Scott, Hone, McGuinness and O'Neill. The exhibition runs for the rest of this month.
