SOAP&SKIN

Lovetune for Vaccum Couch ***

Strange but true: these eerie and haunting electronic sounds come from a pig farm in Austria. That's where 18-year-old Anja Plaschg (aka SoapSkin) grew up, and it probably means a load of pork puns to come for the girl down the road. As things stand, though, Lovetune for Vaccumis a captivating introduction to Plaschg's highly individual take on electronic music. You can clearly hear her sense of grandeur and drama in those gothtronica songs such as Cry Wolf, where her old-beyond-her-years voice is to the fore. That same sweep of exacting doom is also there when the machines take over ( Thantos, Fall Foliage). Plaschg isn't afraid to engage with her experimental side, and DDMMYYYYsplutters and splatters with tidal waves of effects running through the track. One to note for the future. www.myspace.com/soapandskin
