Dublin band Delorentos have reversed their decision to split after the recording of their second album.
The quartet, who released their Choice Music Prize- nominated debut, In Love With Detail, in 2007, said in February that co-vocalist and guitarist Rónan Yourell had decided to leave the band, and that the remaining three members would not continue under the Delorentos banner. Before splitting, they planned to record their second album, You Can Have Sound, and play several goodbye gigs around the country next month.
A blog on their MySpace page earlier this week, however, told of Yourell’s 180-degree turn.
“The dramatic press release a couple of months back was in hindsight premature, but we wanted to be open and honest about what was going on,” it read. “It’s a cliché, but I took those closest to me for granted. In studio I was reminded of the reasons I first got so excited about this group . . . Had the band not felt compelled to record the songs we had been working on, I would not have had an opportunity to rethink my decision.”
This newfound team spirit comes at an opportune time; it was also announced this week that three of Delorentos songs ( Basis of Everything, Do You Realiseand The Rules) have been made available to download for the PlayStation 3 karaoke game Singstar.
