In the list of members of the Northern Assembly Statutory Committees in yesterday's editions, Mr Duncan Shipley-Dalton, an Ulster Unionist Party member of the Enterprise, Trade and Investment Committee, was incorrectly described as a Sinn Fein member. The error is regretted.

An article on Cardinal Winning in the Scotland & Ireland supplement on Tuesday quoted from a letter published in the Scotsman on the subject of the cardinal. Regrettably, the name of the letter-writer was incorrect. The quoted letter, which spoke admiringly of Cardinal Winning's watchful presence and willingness to put himself at risk of controversy, was in fact written by Peter Stangoe, not by Mandy Telford, women's officer of the National Union of Students in Scotland, as stated.

Ms Telford's letter, which was published alongside Mr Stangoe's, was critical of what she described as Cardinal Winning's homo-phobia.

Where errors occur it is the policy of The Irish Times to correct or clarify as soon as practicable.
