In last Friday's leading article headed "Treating the VHI's ills", it was stated incorrectly that BUPA Ireland was "fined" £5 million last year when it exceeded a £6 million unfair competition threshold. No fine was levied on BUPA and no £6 million unfair competition threshold was breached as there is none.
It was further stated that BUPA "made such profits on a client base of 110,000". BUPA did not have profits last year and the statement that the Government viewed BUPA's profits as "likely to destabilise the market" therefore is also incorrect. The figure of 110,000 refers to this year's client base.
It was also stated that BUPA Ireland had criticised the decision to expand the system of community rating so as to guard against "cherry picking". BUPA Ireland states that it fully supports and practises community rating and that no proposals to expand it have drawn criticism from the company.
A report on Mother Redcap's market in the editions of September 11th said it was the only indoor market in the area of Christ Church. In fact, the Liberty market in Meath Street is an indoor market which has been in existence since 1973.
