In Fintan O'Toole's article on the Emerald Meats case in the editions of October 31st, the Secretary of the Department of Agriculture was said to have commented (on being informed that beef companies were not processing meat imported under GATT licences) "Did we ever think they would?".
This attribution is contained in the judgment on the case of Mr Justice Costello in the High Court in 1991. The then Secretary of the Department, Mr Donal Creedon, has asked us to point out that the comment was not made by him.
