Comments from Mr Niall Stokes, outgoing chairman of the IRTC, were quoted in an article headed "IRTC will determine standards in new market-led broadcasting environment" in Wednesday's editions. Mr Stokes wishes to make clear that the comments were taken from a speech he made to the IRTC conference four weeks ago; that they referred to the need for regulation of cable only; that they were not directed at the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands, Ms ile de Valera; and that they were not made in response to the appointment of the new board for the IRTC.
