Monday's report headed "Fine Gael may try to woo Harkin back to the party" said Ms Marian Harkin was a former member of Fine Gael. This information was supplied by the Fine Gael party. Ms Harkin points out that, in fact, she was never a member of Fine Gael.

Monday's report headed "Dog carcasses can end up in the food chain" said that after an Irish Times report last week, the Department of Agriculture had moved to ensure that all carcasses of dogs destroyed by local authorities must now be sent to the Monery rendering plant in Co Cavan.

A spokesman for the Department states that, as all material sent to Monery is taken to the Continent for destruction, from Friday last such dog carcasses can not enter the feed chain.

Where errors occur it is the policy of The Irish Times to correct or clarify as soon as practicable.
