The caption to a photograph on page 1 yesterday included a statement from the group CHILD (Children's Hospital in Leukaemia Drive) which said it was opposing the decision by the Minister for Health, Mr Cowen, to close units at the National Children's Hospital, Tallaght, and the transfer of assessment to Our Lady's Hospital for Sick Children, Crumlin.
A spokesman for the Minister states that no decision has been made to close units at Tallaght. The decision is that all paediatric oncology cases will be referred to Our Lady's Hospital for Sick Children, Crumlin, for initial diagnosis and treatment planning and, pending the outcome of detailed discussion on the implementation of the National Cancer Forum's recommendations, there will be no disruption to patient care which will continue in the hospitals which children are currently attending.
