When it comes to new-school record labels, there’s a lot of love in the room for Border Community. Set up by reformed trancer and Oxford maths student James Holden in 2003, the label has released fine records by Nathan Fake, Dextro, Petter, Misstress Barbara, Avus and many more in its ongoing quest for sounds that don’t fit into any one category. Holden’s own album, The Idiots Are Winning, is one of the label’s high spots, a barrage of cocky, rebellious sounds and fresh ways of thinking.

Fake, however, remains the label’s best known artist, with his two albums, Drowning In a Sea of Love and this year’s Hard Islands, demonstrating his astute, expressionistic, synth-heavy brand of electronica. Tonight’s label showcase at the Kitten will feature Holden on the decks, a live set from Fake and a turn from local electronic producer Jack Hamill aka Space Dimension Controller.
