A double-page engraved and hand coloured map of Ireland by Baptista Boazio, dating from 1612, surpassed its estimate of £1,500-£2,200 to sell for £3,500 at an auction of a small selection of early Irish maps held by London auction house, Bonhams last Tuesday.
Among the other maps in the sale more modest prices were realised by Venetian, V.M. Coronelli's 1690 version (£350), the map produced by Herman Moll in 1714 (also £350) and, with a dedication to Sir Donat O'Brien and dating from 1712, that made by John Senex (£500).
