A small scale comedy with a tragic undertow, Jose Sanchis Sinisterra's play Ay, Carmela! (here in English) is set in the Spanish civil war, and has two travelling entertainers as its characters. When they find themselves entertaining Franco's troops, who are holding International Brigade prisoners for execution, their act goes sour.

Eva Eklof and Ferran Audi give most engaging performances as the small people singed by the flames of history in the making.
