Hayes's `Sailing Ships' is sold for £1,900
An oil by Edwin Hayes, called Sailing Ships in Rough Seas, sold for £1,900 at Town & Country's auction on the company's premises last Sunday. Otherwise, the day's top prices were made by lots of furniture, such as a set of six Victorian mahogany balloon-back dining chairs, which sold for £1,400, and a walnut fold-over card table from the same period, which made £1,250. A sum of £1,100 was paid for a set of six George III mahogany fork-back dining chairs, a set of six Victorian mahogany balloon-back dining chairs was sold for £960 and a Victorian oak "Gothic" bookcase went under the hammer for £900.
