NOW you can not only see Riverdance - The Show, but get Riverdance - The Story, in a book by Sam Smyth with fine colour photographs, and Riverdance - The New Show on video, writes Carolyn Swift. And it certainly is a new show, or a great deal of it. Recorded live at Radio City Music Hall, New York, and superbly shot for widescreen on 16mm film by lighting cameraman Ciaran Tanham, it records for the first time numbers from the vastly improved second half of the show like American Wake. Harbour of the New World. Homecoming and the sensational duelling dance: Trading Tabs.
It stars Jean Butler, Colin Dunne and Maria Page's, and the credits do not stress the contribution of Michael Flatley as a choreographer. Sam Smyth's book gives him due credit and recounts the whole sorry tale of his departure from the show, as well as telling the story of the production and its music.
