Smashing Pumpkins drummer Jimmy Chamberlin has quit the band he joined in its infancy in 1988. “I won’t pretend I’m into something I’m not,” he said on his blog.

This means that the only remaining original member of the famed rock band, which re-assembled in 2007 after a seven-year lull, is frontman Billy Corgan, who has since insisted that he will continue to record under the Smashing Pumpkins name.
