Date of Birth: Earth birthday, March 4th 1968, but was really born when, at the age of four, she first appeared on the silver screen as Mia Farrow and Robert Redford's daughter in The Great Gatsby.
Appearance: Has "a sweet, bland, rather expressionless face", according to A.S. Byatt, who chose the star for the film, Angels and Insects, based on a Byatt novella.
An actress then? Yes, but so much more besides. Daughter of a character known as Jimmy the Dip, Patsy had solid East End credentials. Her brother's Godfather was Jimmy's old mucker Reggie Cray. After her Gatsby debut, she went on to become Miss Bird's Eye at five, and to star in films with Elizabeth Taylor and Harrison Ford. Her big break was playing the pretty young London wild child, Crepe Suzette, in the super flop musical, Absolute Beginners. She also starred in Kill Cruise, Bullseye's Timebomb, Blue Tornado, and Love and Betrayal the Mia Farrow Story, among others.
I've never heard of any of them: That is very much the point. Luckily, Kensit has other interests. She once did a stint as the lead "singer" of pop band Eighth Wonder. I'm Not Scared was written by Pet Shop Boy, Neil Tennant. A spoken version of the song, J'ai Pas Peur went to number one in France.
She is a devotee of popular music then? She reportedly bagged her first pop star a member of Spandau Ballet when she was 14. It was obviously a pleasant experience as Kensit is now more famous for notching up pop star romances than for any of her other occupations. She married Jim Kerr and had a son with him.
But if she wanted to get involved with a pop star, why would she choose Jim Kerr? Though it now seems hard to believe, Simple Minds were, once upon a time, a very popular band. It was at that time that Patsy hooked up with Jim, the band's lead singer. Now Simple Minds are something of a joke Jim has gone flabby and Oasis are the biggest band in the universe.
No great difficulty guessing what Patsy did next then? Absolutely not. In a neat bit of post feminist sleight of hand, Patsy dumped the clapped out old banger and got herself a new, sporty model a bit of super rich rough trade called Liam Gallagher, lead singer with Oasis.
I thought Liam didn't know how to drive? That was a metaphor.
And what is it that she finds attractive about pop stars? One of her most often repeated quotes runs. "I don't care about money or anything like that. All I want to be is more famous than anyone or anything. I say my prayers every night. I say. Please, God, make me a star'." I guess she figures pop stars are the quickest way of fulfilling her dream. She is, by the way, not expecting a child with Liam, despite nine months of tabloid speculation. Nevertheless, the couple now plan to wed.
You make her sound rather skilled in the ways of the world how come her image is that of a dumb blonde? Well, as her old pal A.S. Byatt has been known to remark, "...she's a very intelligent girl who has succeeded in displaying stupidity in a rather clever way".
