A woman who died in hospital following an alleged assault at her home in Co Galway has been named locally.
Sharon Naughton (50s) from Loughbaun, Aughrim, Ballinasloe died from her injures at Portiuncula Hospital’s intensive care unit on Thursday.
Ms Naughton was allegedly assaulted in her home on Monday night.
A mother, she was described as an “intrinsic” part of the local community and had previously worked for a bank.

On Thursday night her husband Owen Naughton, of Loughbaun, Aughrim, Ballinasloe in Co Galway, was brought before Ballinasloe District Court and formally charged with assaulting his wife and causing her harm.
Mr Naughton made no reply when he was charged. Gardaí objected to bail on the grounds of the seriousness of the charge. Judge Deirdre Geraghty refused bail and remanded Mr Naughton in custody.
