Woodies DIY has opened its 12th store - in Athlone, Co Westmeath - as the first step in a major expansion. The store is its fifth outside Dublin and will employ 50 staff.

Speaking at the opening yesterday, Woodies DIY chief executive, Mr Ray Colman, said more stores are now planned as part of its long-term strategy to provide a store in every major town and city.
