WALL Street stocks moved back into record territory today as renewed optimism about the Federal Reserve's interest rate cut helped offset early profit taking and inflation jitters prompted by rising gold prices
The Dow Jones closed up 33.60 points at 5,407.59. The index of blue chip companies, which lost 31 points on Friday was down as much as 25 points in the morning.
Broad market indexes were also higher after spending most of the quiet session lower. The technology heavy Nasdaq composite rose solidly from Friday's record finish as several stocks advanced.
Advances outnumbered declines by about 8 to 7 on the New York Stock Exchange, with 1,262 up, 1,117 down and 720 unchanged.
The NYSE composite rose 2. 17 to 342.26, the Nasdaq composite rose 9.93 to 1,082.04, and the American Exchange's market value index rose 1.73 to 557.27.
