UTV MEDIA has acquired a Northern Ireland-based online recruitment business in a move the Belfast group claims will underpin its multimedia strategy.

UTV acquired Recruit NI, which celebrates its 10th anniversary this year, for an undisclosed sum.

Recruit NI specialises in the local recruitment market and has a client base that includes blue-chip multinationals and local small firms.

Jeremy Biggerstaff, managing director of UTV’s new media division, said Recruit NI will continue to operate as an independent business. He said the group intended to invest in its new acquisition and extend its reach across television and radio.

“This business will be integrated into the UTV New Media division and will strengthen our online presence and help drive our multimedia strategy. We will use the expertise we have built up over the past nine years to help take it forward,” he added.

UTV’s New Media division is made up of UTV Internet and Tibus, an all-Ireland web design agency which it acquired last year for £5 million.

Latest financial results for the UTV Media group show the acquisition of Tibus helped the division boost its revenue growth by 18 per cent last year to £11.5 million.
