MORE than 20 companies from Northern Ireland and the Border counties have said they will attend next week's trade and investment conference in Pittsburgh, according to a member of the US Consulate in Belfast.

Commercial representative, Mr Joe White, said that as part of the three day conference, which starts on Sunday, participants will be matched" with American companies which could help them to market their products or services in the US.

"This is a major opportunity for the Irish companies to do some informal match making," Mr White said.

The conference will also be attended by the Tanaiste, Mr Spring, the Northern Ireland Secretary of State, Sir Patrick Mayhew, Senator George Mitchell, and leading members of the business community, including Heinz chairman, Dr Tony O'Reilly.

The US Commerce Secretary, Mr Mickey Kantor, said that the venture will help American firms create American jobs, and serve the cause of peace.
