Surfcontrol, a UK-based internet security firm, said yesterday it may bid for a unit of Baltimore Technologies, the Dublin-based firm which last month announced 600 global job losses.
The firm is understood to be interested in acquiring the content management arm of Baltimore which was recently put up for sale as part of a radical restructuring plan. Mr Steve Purdham, chief executive of SurfControl, whose software helps firms block employees' access to adult sites on the Web, said it was considering a bid for Content Technologies.
Another senior SurfControl executive said it was not provided with the "kind of information required to make this kind of decision".
A Baltimore spokeswoman would not confirm or deny whether SurfControl had contacted the firm for information. But she said several firms had expressed an interest in the unit since Baltimore said it was for sale last month.
