Sales of more than $1 million (£675,000) may be generated by a trade fair organised by An Bord Tracht ala, for broadcast on the biggest shopping channel in the US.
The fair, which was launched yesterday, will be broadcast on the Home Shopping Network (HSN) later this year. HSN reaches 70 million American homes and receives up to 200,000 sales calls a day.
A team of senior representatives from HSN are in Dublin this week to select the Irish giftware.
At an exhibition yesterday over 100 manufacturers from the Republic and Northern Ireland displayed products for inclusion in the promotion.
Mr Tom Kitt, Minister of State the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment said the broadcast would "provide a major direct sales boost to Irish giftware companies as well as significant additional sales benefits".
