THE SILLY season finally draws to a close this week, with many of the heavyweights of the Irish stock exchange reporting interim results. Among those reporting are Irish Life Permanent, Aer Lingus, Independent News Media, Irish Continental and food groups Glanbia and Kerry.

The key economic event of the week will be on Friday, when the Central Bank releases data on private-sector credit and mortgage lending for July.

The figures are expected to show that the private-sector credit annual growth rate eased again last month, while the level of residential mortgage borrowing is also expected to show a further year-on-year decline.
