Web Log: Twitter co-founder ‘un-pivots’ with Q&A service

‘We think there’s room for a new kind of search engine powered by the fundamental helpfulness in all of us.’

Biz Stone has moved on from Twitter and – up until last week – from Jelly, a people-powered search engine of sorts. Three years later he announces what he calls an "un-pivot" ie, Jelly took a break and now it's back.

For those who don’t remember Jelly, it takes queries and finds not results but people who are informed and willing to answer. As Stone says: “We think there’s room for a new kind of search engine powered by the fundamental helpfulness in all of us.”

In theory, there are helpful people on existing social networks who are willing to help you find answers, but more than once I have received a snitty link to lmgtfy.com (type it in and see what happens) – as if laziness or being too stupid to type it into Google is all that stands between a curious person and an adequate answer. Sometimes we need real people with the right kind of expertise. Let's hope Jelly connects us to them.
