Google Drive

STORE:Over the past few weeks you will have noticed that Google Docs has been notifying users of the transition to Google Drive. This new service immediately gives 5GB of free storage in the cloud, with both desktop and smartphone apps to sync files in the same way that Dropbox currently offers. With plenty of storage, an offline viewing option and built-in word processing it's a worthy opponent to Dropbox and SkyDrive, but will probably be complimentary to these established services for the time being.

PODCAST:This podcast is a wonderful mixture of comedy and science. Smarty pants scientist Prof Brian Cox (right) and sarcastic sidekick Robin Ince are back for a third season to poke fun at astrology, homeopathy and other pseudosciences, while gently informing the audience through reasoned debate with a gentle side serving of laughter. Eminent scientists come on the panel every week and its popularity has spawned a UK tour alongside Bad Science columnist Ben Goldacre.

Do your research before you travel, book into hotels with free wifi and download one of those apps that can detect hidden networks. Podcasts for iOS

iPHONE:Apple has made the decision to spilt podcasts off from the main iTunes Store by giving the former category its own app. Now podcasts played through your iPhone have their own interface, which on the surface is slick and shiny looking, but the "stations" view, designed for discovering new podcasts in a more visual way, is a bit gimmicky. It looks alright on the iPad, though the old-fashioned catalog view is still available and a preferable way to search.
