Bookmark: Download the Universe

Ebooks have been mainstream for a few years now, but outside of the print titles that happen to be available in digital format from sites such as Amazon it can be difficult to track down quality ebook-only titles.

Download the Universe is a review site run by a group of scientists and writers, including respected science journalist Ed Yong. They review a diverse selection of science books in Kindle, iPad, Kobo and other digital formats. Enlightening.

Create: A custom iPhone case with The Vibe

This website combines custom 3D printing with online music service SoundCloud to create a unique iPhone case.

Logging in to your SoundCloud account allows you to choose and play the song of your choice and drag its soundwave pattern to the on-screen case.

I have now immortalised, in plastic, where the bass kicks in on my favourite song. Magic.

Install: Highlight for ‘ambient social networking’

This new social networking iPhone app is intriguing but brings up some privacy issues.

It falls into the category of “ambient social networking” by running in the background, alerting you when a fellow user is in the vicinity.

In order to use it you must log in using a Facebook account, which pulls your profile data with it.

You’ll be alerted if Highlight users in your extended friends network happen to be nearby. Battery-draining technological serendipity.
