The Irish Software Association and the Federation of Electronic and Informatic Industries have urged Leaving Cert students to consider third-level courses in information technology.

There is huge demand for skilled graduates and technicians in the software and electronics and software sectors in Ireland and the associations say that people following such a career can look forward to high salaries, excellent work conditions and a very fast moving environment.

Third-level places in software development, electronic engineering, and technician courses are at an all-time high with an estimated 2,300 degree and 1,800 certificate and diploma places in software development on offer.
